Sadly, I do not have problems with a begging dog, but I do have two relentless begging guinea pigs. Also, the equine Mint Monster herself (Trick), who would gladly sacrifice her dying gasp of air for a nice, crunchy peppermint.

What I want to know, is why didn’t they get in trouble for having a pet bobcat? Arkansas apparently doesn’t have the same types of animal laws as some other states.

Cat Scratch Disease (aka Cat Scratch Fever) is caused by a bacteria called Bartonella henselae. More than 90% of the people who acquire this dease have been exposed to a cat or kitten prior to infection. Symptoms include: a non-painful blister or bump that appears soon after the cat bite occurs, swollen lymph nodes within 2 weeks post-bite, mild headaches, fever, and/or loss of appetite. It is not fatal, and will most often resolve without any treatment at all.

According to this article the pet food scare that sickened and killed dogs and cats last year was not the first of such occurances. A smaller outbreak occurred in Asia in 2004, due to the same situation (flour in the pet food had been spiked with melamine to appear higher in protein, thus making the pet food a higher grade and more expensive).

According to a study, this might be true. Pain relief and heart attack prevention are both discussed in the article above, which does not provide any incontrovertible proof, but does toss around a bunch of statistics that may or may not prove the health benefits of owning a pet cat.
